Pick a lens.
Kenya detected more cyber threat events in the last quarter of 2025 than in the whole of 2024. The workforce to answer them is not there.
One quarter now outweighs a year.
The National KE-CIRT/CC detected 4.56 billion threat events in the last quarter of 2025. The whole of 2024 came to 3.60 billion. The Authority attributes part of the jump to better monitoring, and the rest to weak patching, phishing and criminals using AI.
It is not somewhere else.
INTERPOL’s detections put Kenya fourth on the continent for ransomware in 2024, behind South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria. The attacks it documents include Kenya’s Urban Roads Authority.

How long to close Kenya’s gap?
Kenya has more than 45,000 unfilled cybersecurity roles and about 1,500 graduates a year. Drag the slider to see what changing the pipeline does to the timeline. It ignores new roles created along the way, so the real number is worse.
